“Newport News received a platinum award in the Virginia Municipal
League’s Green Government Challenge for 2013. Mayor McKinley L. Price was given
the award on Tuesday during the organization’s annual conference in Arlington.
City Sustainability Manager Jennifer Privette told the Planning
Commission at its Wednesday meeting that the city has won a Green Government award
every year since 2008, when the League began honoring cities’ and counties'
sustainability and environmental management efforts.”
