“River Generating Station, which is located on Alexandria’s waterfront,
ceased operation. NRG, the current owner of the old coal-fired power plant, is
continuing to de-commission the facility and test the site for potential
contamination.
In July, 2013, NRG agreed to a site characterization study, which was
requested by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. VDEQ made this
request after receiving reports of leaks from the underground storage tanks
located on the site.”
